Graduation Pathways Completion Rates (2019-20 to 2024-25)

In 2019, House Bill 1599 established different graduation pathways as part of statewide high school graduation requirements. The bill also required the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to annually report on the number of students completing each pathway. In accordance with legislation, this dataset features pathway completion rates for all four-year graduation cohorts since the Class of 2020. An accompanying data display is available at the source link below.

1. Additional information about graduation pathways can be found on the OSPI website: https://ospi.k12.wa.us/student-success/graduation/graduation-pathways. The specific criteria used to determine if a pathway is met are described in the "Read Me" tab of the accompanying data display: https://ospi.k12.wa.us/data-reporting/data-displays-and-maps/graduation-pathways-display
2. OSPI reports graduation pathways data for each school year's four-year graduation cohort. For example, data reported for the 2021-22 school year are for the 2022 four-year graduation cohort (also referred to as the Class of 2022). Students are assigned to graduation cohorts according to their graduation requirements year, which is generally four years after their 9th grade year (i.e., their four-year cohort). The cohorts reported here are also "adjusted", meaning that they omit students who were once assigned to the cohort but have since transferred out of public school in Washington. As with other graduation-related metrics, OPSI makes this adjustment at the direction of the U.S. Department of Education.
3. To download data, select the "Export" button on the top right of the screen and then select which format you'd like to save the data in. Please note that this data file holds over 1,000,000 records and will not load all records if opened in Excel. When using this file, it is recommended that you use methods and software that allow you to open data sets larger than 1,000,000 records. Or, after navigating to the "Actions" button on the top right of this screen and using the "Query Data" functionality, a filter can be applied to limit the data and allow for download of smaller file sizes that can be opened in Excel.
4. Disclosure Avoidance Techniques (DAT) have been applied to this file to protect student privacy. More information about DAT can be found in the attached PDF.
