| 1. | Most permit applications do not require a project amount to apply for and obtain a permit, a few examples are, plumbing, HVAC, and fencing. In the past the city employee would assign the dollar amount of the permit, this caused some confusion by citizens. For example two citizens would both pull an HVAC permit and one would have the valuation of $63.00 and the other $73.00. Therefore we changed in 2017 and assigned $50.00 for every permit application than does not require a project dollar amount to complete the permitting process. Additionally roofing and siding projects are always more that the value assigned by our system. We received numerous calls when a home owner is quoted say 5k for a siding or roofing job and our system assigns 2500 to the project. The question ranged from do I need another permit to, did my contractor over sell my project, or am I being cheated? So again we assign $50.00 to the report. Per Jason Ewing, City of Clarkston Public Works Department. |
| 2. | For permit applications which do require calculated valuation, the amount is provided by the contractor and/or by factors established by City of Clarkston Municipal Code, City Ordinance 1205. See Building and Construction Permit Fee Matrix in attachments. |
| 3. | The data is collected weekly by the City of Clarkston Public Works Department and updated to this dataset annually. |
| 4. | If property owner field is left blank, the property owner is the City of Clarkston. It is left blank to avoid grouping unlike projects together, which would happen as a result of the software used. |
| 5. | Permit numbers and dates are not necessarily in numerical or chronological order. Two reasons: 1) Projects that are based on time and material cannot be assigned a valuation until completed. 2) For big projects, all permits are issued at the beginning but don't come into effect until the appropriate time in the project; for example, drywall isn't hung until framing is complete. |
